And today, 7 of those 14 spaces are RESERVED.
2 are reserved for library staff. Both empty.
1 is a loading zone -- NO PARKING. Empty. (seriously?? a LOADING zone? for a LIBRARY? How often is THAT needed?)
3 are handicapped spaces, and I have no quibble with that at all, except 1 of them has been 'stolen' by the library for the use of contractors who are working on something out the back of the library. And the other 2 of them were empty.

So out of the whole parking lot, there were 7 spaces available to the general public, all filled (YAY for a town where at least 7 people read) and 7 spaces closed to just anyone, only one of which was in use. By someone who was NOT using the library.
I am applauding the law-abiding citizens of BeachTown (including myself) who will park over the road at the supermarket and run to the library in the rain; but BOO HISS to the council, because that is a poor effort.
I love that my library is a two minute walk from my bus stop and a five minute walk from work. Makes up for the lack of parking there.
ReplyDeleteNow that I think about it, I've never seen a library with adequate parking, and I've lived in a lot of places, and joined a lot of libraries.
Maybe it's to discourage people from lingering. Because I could quite happily spend all day in a library if I didn't know I had to leave.
There seems to be a lot of 7's in your week. Buy a Lotto ticket and name it Lucky 7.
ReplyDeleteLibraries aren't the only places with inadequate parking, but let's not get into that. I've noticed that when a library is attached to or adjacent council offices there is quite a lot of parking available.
That's pretty pathetic, Toni. Our library's parking is quite away from the front door (although, getting there is all undercover). It's actually easier to park on the side of the road and pay! No reserved spots though here, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteToni, there is NEVER ENOUGH parking spots at our library ... cause above it is the BINGO HALL !!! and for some reason 'bingo' is always on when i decide to go to the library !!!!! ggrrr.......
ReplyDeleteFound out tonight, the construction going on out the back is for a large community resources centre, so you can just IMAGINE what parking will be like when that's finished!!
