where are my words when I need them?

Thinking about words.

Today, Eden asks
If you were invited to a birthday party and the party-thrower had an open mic ready for you to say some of your favourite words, which ones would you choose?

Being totally egocentric, I started by thinking of words for me.

My favourite 'life' quote?
Life's too short to eat brown bananas.

My favourite poem?
i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
eecummings

an amazing TV quote?

Then I re-read Edens' post. NOT about me.

So, Eden, this is for you. I don't know if you like Coldplay but today these lyrics seem to fit.

Happy birthday.

When she was just a girl
She expected the world
But it flew away from her reach
So she ran away in her sleep
Dreamed of para- para- paradise
Para- para- paradise
Para- para- paradise
Every time she closed her eyes

When she was just a girl
She expected the world
But it flew away from her reach
And the bullets catch in her teeth

Life goes on
It gets so heavy
The wheel breaks the butterfly
Every tear, a waterfall
In the night, the stormy night
She closed her eyes
In the night, the stormy night
Away she'd fly.

And dreamed of para- para- paradise
Para- para- paradise
Para- para- paradise

She dreamed of para- para- paradise
Para- para- paradise
Para- para- paradise

So lying underneath those stormy skies.
She said oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh.
I know the sun must set to rise.

This could be para- para- paradise
Para- para- paradise
This could be para- para- paradise
Whoa-oh-oh oh-oooh oh-oh-oh.

UPDATE: turns out that song is about me, too. Happy birthday anyway, Eden. Kick 40s' arse.

  8. Nice. My 3 year old daughter loves that Coldplay song - she sings it "Paradoor"....so now we all sing it that way!

  9. I, too, did not realize it was Eden's hypothetical birthday party.
I've never really jumped into e. e. cummings' work, but many of you are stepping up to the mic with his words in hand. Lovely, all of it.

  12. Oh yes, life is definitely too short to eat brown bananas. I love your choice of quotes and song. What strikes me most about this post is that I just wrote a post today (the one after my Fresh Horses one) that ends with the line 'Kick arse'! - Snap! x

  13. Well, Toni. Am dragging my slow bedraggled arse around, to finally read everyone's words. I've been sick, hectic, and overwhelmed. But I came to your just now and POW that ee cummings poem, the one I read out on my wedding day. Yessiree.

Just beautiful. And I love that Coldplay song, but never really knew the lyrics. Now I do.

Thank you so very much, beautiful lady.

Thankyou.
