Sunday Selections -- roads

I don't normally play along with Sunday Selections, because I'm such a BAD photographer, and always feel embarrassed at my meagre offerings.

BUT I love taking photos of roads. Preferably from the front seat while my husband drives. And I've seen some beautiful stretches of road in this big, brown country.
So settle back as we take a little trip.

These were all taken on the way to (or from) (or in) Cooktown, in North Queensland. I grew up in NQ and we were always going 'out bush' fishing and camping, so these photos make me feel very nostalgic! And the SMELL as you drive through this country is gorgeous.

(The smell here was NOT good. Urine. What is wrong with some people?)

These photos were taken around Norseman, on WAs' Goldfields. I feel no nostalgia for it at ALL. The bottom photo is of a dry salt lake, taken from the side-window as we sped by on our way to Perth.

And these are all of the lower south of WA -- around Pemberton, Albany and Walpole, in the tall karri forests.

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Kim says

I take a lot of photos and most of them are just sitting around in folders on my desktop not doing anything. I thought that a dedicated post once a week would be a good way to share some of these photos that otherwise wouldn’t be seen by anyone other than me.
I am also remarkably absent minded and I put photos into folders and think that I will publish them later on and then then I never do.
So I have started a photo meme that anyone can join in and play as well. The rules are so simple as to be virtually non existent.
Just add your name and URL to the Mr Linky.
Publish your photos on your blog using the “Sunday Selections” title.
Link back here to me.
so play along, why don't you?

  1. Ooooh. You are so wrong about your photographic skills. Loved them = particularly going through avenues of trees. A joy. Thank you.
And for urine smells I think they must pay people to piddle in railway underpasses - it just couldn't get that bad without some incentive.

I've just read your comment at Toushka Lee's, my laptop is super slow today too. Must be the weather....(always blame the weather)

  3. Oh, thankyou EC!! but I think it's the subject matter rather than the photographer that makes these look good!

  6. Some great shots of lovely views there, but I'm intrigued by the tube-thingies on the front of your car. They kept drawing my attention away, thinking 'what could they be'. ;-)

  7. You know, the photo of the smelly spot is my favourite. :)

And you must have a clean windscreen, those are wonderful, crisp shots. You wouldn't get those from my hubs car!

  8. Carolina, they're fishing rod holders. This is a Man Car.

  9. They remind me of the photos I take whenever we go on holiday and my husband chooses to drive long distances. I'm forever hanging out of the window snapping pictures of the road or passing scenery!

I like your pictures. And I'm wondering if the karri trees in Queensland might be related to the kauri trees of New Zealand?

  10. How on earth could you be embarrassed by these photos? They are wonderful. Living on a small island I forget just how BIG mainland Australia is. Thank you for joining in and I hope you publish more photos.

  11. Hi Jay -- these karri are only found in WA, and I just did a quick Google search on kauri, don't think they're related but I'd be happy for any botanist to correct me.
Karris are apparently the third tallest tree species in the world.

And Kim -- THANKYOU! I will join in again.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I love to hear what you have to say even if you disagree with me. I have only one request -- please keep it polite.
Thankyou.
